What Q Can Save Today—and What It Cannot Promise Yet

The useful promise is simple: Q gives a listener one place to return to a moment. The method changes with the source, so the experience should be explained honestly.

One action, different inputs

Qthatup is designed to give a listener one clear action when a media moment matters. A song, a participating on-air offer, a location, or a photo can be saved so the listener has a practical place to return later.

The important detail is that Q does not use the same input for every situation. The product should say what it knows, where the information came from, and when a result cannot be confirmed. That makes the experience more useful than an oversized promise.

When you are listening inside Qthatup

When a listener is playing a participating station inside Qthatup, the Q action can use station-provided now-playing or playout information. That is the clearest path for eligible song and participating campaign details because the information is attached to the listening experience.

Directory streams may provide basic stream metadata. Metadata can be useful for a song title or artist, but it is not a guarantee that an advertisement or every on-air transition can be identified. A broadcaster’s configured data remains the stronger source.

When a physical radio is playing nearby

For a radio playing outside the app, the listener uses SYNC and explicitly grants microphone permission. Qthatup records a short clip, transcribes and classifies it, and saves a result only when the recognition process returns one.

This is consent-based microphone recognition, not a licensed acoustic-fingerprint service. Noisy audio, brief clips, instrumental music, or unclear speech can return an unknown result. Qthatup should never describe this path as a guaranteed Shazam-style match until a licensed fingerprinting provider and accuracy program are in place.

What makes the saved moment worthwhile

A saved Q should lead somewhere useful: a song or artist detail, a participating offer, a location, a partner-approved destination, or a history item the listener can revisit. Saving a record without a useful next step is not the goal.

For media partners, that means connecting approved information to the right eligible moments. For listeners, it means the Q button stays simple while the system remains honest about the quality of the available information.
